In this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller from Harlan Coben, a dead man's secrets fall into the hands of a vigilante antihero—drawing him down a dangerous road.

Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors — and the items stolen from her family were never recovered.

Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead — not only on Patricia's kidnapping, but also on another FBI cold case — with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Windsor Horne Lockwood III — or Win, as his few friends call him — doesn't know how his suitcase and his family's stolen painting ended up with a dead man. But his interest is piqued, especially when the FBI tells him that the man who kidnapped his cousin was also behind an act of domestic terrorism — and that the conspirators may still be at large. The two cases have baffled the FBI for decades, but Win has three things the FBI doesn't: a personal connection to the case; an ungodly fortune; and his own unique brand of justice.

Harlan Coben for the "Win"

I don't usually write reviews. This book however, is SO Harlan Coben. To revel in this book (if you've read earlier novels where this character, Win, was not the main character) is to read a masterful creation of what drives that second character to be so easily understood as a main character. I kept waiting for Myron to appear, but that would have lessened the impact of Win - both the character as well as this carefully crafted book. Kudos Mr. Coben. Waiting for the next one. Hope it reunites Win and Myron, so that Win can tell Myron to articulate, but I'll read it nonetheless.

I very much disliked the main character-“poor little rich boy” comes to mind. I didn’t enjoy the story or like any of the characters. Used to like Harlan Coban;not this time. Possibly not ever again.

petelx

Perhaps Coben’s finest to date

Coben’s writing sizzles in his latest thriller, with dialog that reaches a new level of wittiness and sharpness. The title character can be offputting in a way to make you love him even more, a true snob, to be sure, but clever beyond imagination. The plot engages right to the surprise ending. Congratulations Harlan. This one is brilliant.

jazminamick

WIN is a winner!

Completely engrossing Harlan Cohen at his best!

Edweird

Just Meh.

This was my first Harlan Coben book and I’m sad to say, it really disappointed me. I hate Win’s personality and everything about him. He is a completely unlikable guy and I just didn’t care about the story. The characters were dull, without depth, and were not interesting at all. This is a true and honest review. I’m not an overly critical type of person; in fact, there’s a lot I can overlook in a story. But this one was painful to get through.

The Bascher

Not His Best

Alas, the great Harlan Coben is off his game. Mix a far too complicated plot with a cornucopia of barely necessary peripheral characters; then add a misogynistic, rude, ultra wealthy and ultra unlikable “hero;” and finally throw in an unsatisfying ending. Disappointed, but I’ll wait for another one from one of my favorite authors and will give this one a Pandemic Pass...

Mr. Coben has once again written a dazzling page-turner. He weaved a brilliant tale with a cast of terrific characters. The protagonist is an old friend from previous novels, but never seen under such bright light. The author's sustained commitment to excellence is a gift and an inspiration.

Win is Back!

Great to see Win reappear. Very intriguing character and well developed. Corbin makes a number of statements about humanism through Win. As much as we might not like them, his grasp of human motivation is quite accurate. Beyond that, it’s a very good and complex story. Very much in line with what we have come to expect from Corbin. Would like to see what comes next for Win.

Great read

If you’ve always wondered what taking a ride with Win would be like… buckle up. You won’t be disappointed.

Win

Finally he story of Win. What a story

Win

Perfect!

The Dir 18

Excellent!

I always wanted more Win and thankfully Harlan gave him to us!!

BSR191

UGH!

I very much disliked the main character-“poor little rich boy” comes to mind. I didn’t enjoy the story or like any of the characters. Used to like Harlan Coban;not this time. Possibly not ever again.

Terrific read!

I love this whole series! Windsor is a fascinating character, albeit disturbing lol. The cleverness and humor of Coben always makes this series a delight!

Very Wordy

Major disappointment- Cobin fills the pages with way too many detailed descriptions.

Win

I vote Win as a character. He has been a long time favorite. This book did not disappoint either. Same Win whit and attitude.

Win

I’ve always loved the Myron and Win series. I was afraid that Win would not stand up on his own. I was delighted to see that he could

The best

Been a Win fan since he first appeared. Read all of Harlan’s books and liked/loved them all in varying degrees. But Win is now my favorite and I am hoping there will be more.

A page turner!

Really enjoyed this book, lots of twists and turns.

Excellent

Mr. Coben has once again written a dazzling page-turner. He weaved a brilliant tale with a cast of terrific characters. The protagonist is an old friend from previous novels, but never seen under such bright light. The author's sustained commitment to excellence is a gift and an inspiration.

Great book!

I think this is one of his very best books and I have read them all! It was nice and a little disconcerting to live inside the brain of Win for a while!

Maybe it’s time to retire

This book is the absolute worst. If he didn’t already have a name it would never have been published.

Win

Loved the plot. Loads of twists and turns...witty with no chance of putting it down until all was made clear.

Contrary to one review (maybe more) I greatly enjoyed this book. Harlan, if you can keep producing novels like this I’ll keep buying them.

Very good

Excellent read. Couldn’t put it down.

Madmich17

Excellent!!

I’ve always loved Win but this is a new level! Soooo many times I was laughing at his biting sarcasm! It was funny, dramatic, exciting and kept me guessing!! Great book!! My BFF and I read it together and have decided we need to find us our own Win!!! Fingers Crossed!!!!

b4ust

Great read!

Loved the book from Win’s perspective and Harlan Coben’s endings with the twists and multi-storylines never disappoint.

Win

Enough already about how rich Win is. It is tiresome. I won’t be buying any more in this series.

Top notch read, one of the best ever. Worth your time. RO

Please bring back Myron and Harry—this one was pretty bad

Win

Great story by a great writer. A new trilogy begins!

BasiaKY

WIN

Love the author and have read most of his novels. Win is a loser! Nonsensical, convoluted plot, overloaded with unrealistic scenarios. Disappointing!

Lynbro

Win

Win isn’t a main character. He needs Myron.

Nelle49

I needed a good book and this was it

I think he’s a great writer but I don’t always like his characters or his plots. I loved both in this book. A great read.

veryold&tired

Needs Myron

Without both Myron and Win, the story was not entertaining. I wasted my money and won’t do it again story involves both.

Zeebs68

Awesome!

One of my favorite literary characters of all time is Win! So happy he got his own novel. Hope there will be many more! I had missed him and Myron but mostly him!

Could not put it down!

Read it and read it again because it is so amazing. All of it. Cannot wait for the next one!
